To open a bank or post office account, you will need to show your passport and documents to prove that you are registered with Polytech’Lille and for accommodation. You can quite easily pay for your purchases with a bank card or by drawing money out of a foreign account. However, French law is very strict about bank overdrafts. You will find a number of automatic cash dispensers in town and two on the campus (one at the entrance to the "Cité Scientifique" underground station and the other outside "Le Pariselle", the student restaurant).
You may arrange for a transfer from your account abroad to pay money into your bank account in France. You will need to know the SWIFT code of your bank in France as well as your full bank account details (known in France as a "RIB") and should communicate these to your bank abroad. Transfer fees may vary from one branch to another. You may use the Post Office for withdrawing money in the same way as a bank.
