Getting a job during your studies

The recruitment of a foreign student (from outside the European Union) requires a temporary work permit from the "Direction Départementale du Travail et de l'Emploi" (service de la main d'oeuvre étrangère), 77 Rue Léon Gambetta - 59033 Lille Cedex +33 (0) 320 125 555.

Students may obtain this permit on presentation of a confirmed job offer issued by the employer, as long as all the required conditions are fulfilled. The temporary permit may be issued during the first year of the student's stay in France, and is limited to part-time work for one year.

The following documents should be shown:
  • a confirmed job offer signed by the employer
  • a temporary "student" residence permit
  • a student card for the current year
  • a written request on plain paper

In addition, CROUS in Lille offers a temporary employment service. First of all, you should register with this CROUS service, using your student card and residence permit. If you want to look at job offers on-line, you will need to give your registration number to the service. Adverts from private individuals generally involve child-minding, private lessons or housework. Adverts from companies are mostly concerned with promotion, reception, selling, handing out leaflets, inventories, surveys, remote prospecting, deliveries, catering and translation... These jobs are usually offered on a Fixed Term contract (CDD) or Permanent Contract ( CDI), part-time or full-time. Every option may be considered according to the needs of the employer and when you are available, throughout the university year or during the holidays.
